Shocking that lots of people are deterred from flying to places due to the effects of lots of people flying to places.

So, Miss R, let me get this right. When you broadened your horizons “beyond the Hills of Surrey” you ended up in … (checks notes) … Suffolk. Suffolk?

Another possibility: crape weaving replaced iron production in this area around 1800. Crape is a gauze like fabric with a wrinkled surface (imitation silk) much used for mourning dress. Raw silk was smuggled from France, then onto Dye House Lane (near the Moat), where it was dyed before sale. Maybe?

It’s about a mile south of Elstead on the western side of Thursley Common and not close to a castle. I’ve no idea where the name originates; the large ponds on the eastern side of Thursley Common are hammer and silk ponds but this is more likely to have been for a supply of fresh fish.
