Yeah, same! I studied Japanese throughout high school and college. Hiragana/Katagana was a memory game with flashcards, Kanji & grammar was helped along by manga with furigana, listening with tv shows, and speaking skills by chatting with friends. The more fun I had, the easier it got. ^_^

Yeah, not HP but "Good Omens" was my favorite book for decades. After the news broke, I packed away my copy and never plan to read it again. I can't read how he writes women without ignoring his gross true intent behind it. I don't want to purchase anything more that I know will line his pockets.

It's okay if you loved Harry Potter. You're not a bad person for having enjoyed something. But how you act after learning that Rowling actively works to harm folks determines your character. Trying to re-frame the situation so that you do not need to change will do you more harm than good.

You can argue "death of the artist" and "separate the art and the artist" as much as you wish -- it doesn't mean folks won't see you giving a powerful TERF activist cash for nostalgia. There's no mental gymnastics around that.

There are better fictional worlds out there than her small-minded one.
