little hesitant here bc I don’t want to downplay how much safer you are if you’re white, but folks this woman was Norwegian. her whiteness didn’t save her. if you think you are completely safe from this regime due to who you are, you’re wrong.

Totally. Best parenting advice I read was, “they’re not giving you a hard time, they’re having a hard time.”

I think about this like, at least several times a week. Parenting is hard but also, being a kid is hard!

Now more than ever I’m convinced losing Anthony Bourdain meant we lost probably the biggest person on tv who advocated for the wonders of meeting new people and calling anyone online who hated learning new cultures the children they were, ruthlessly to the camera.

Wow, this is very interesting. They're suing OpenAI for tortious interference with a contract because ChatGPT induced her to breach it.

Can an AI commit torts?

I will never understand these people. So fucking unserious. So flippant about the most deadly threats on the planet. How have we raised such a crop of adults who think like preteens? It’s a disgrace

Black and white portrait of a middle-aged man with a shaved head and a mustache, wearing a white shirt and arms crossed. Background is out-of-focus foliage.

In 1938, Kundan Lal Gupta, a businessman and philanthropist from Ludhiana, quietly rescued five Jewish families from Nazi Austria. He did it without fanfare, and few knew his story for decades.

He seems like the only international leader with the guts to stand up for the right positions. And he is widely successful (so is Spain 🇪🇸). Maybe some of the other left-party/liberal leaders should follow his example instead constantly bowing to the right & Trump

An homage to a panel from the Achewood web comic. Phillipe, a young and eager otter, who is wearing a shirt and tie and a helmet for some reason, is happily singing a song to himself as follows:

Born... in the USA! I went to school and I got an... A!
I ate a hamburger and said hooray!
Maybe it will happen today!

The final line is obviously my addition. The art was redrawn by me and is not just a copy of the original panel. Done in black lines and halftone shading on a toned paper background.

You do not need to trouble Chris Onstad about this.

Always wondered how people get paid actual money to have opinions. Like, we all have opinions. About pretty much everything. Why do some handful of us get chosen to broadcast theirs for money when the rest of us just get eyerolled out of existence?

It is an existential imperative that we begin a serious global dialogue about how ‘experts’ as the media uses the term, consistently lag behind us laymen when it comes to Knowing Some Bullshit When We See It.

I am once again tapping the "support independent, worker-owned, billionaire free news" sign. the most powerful people in the world should not be deciding whether or not we know about this sort of thing. putting Marisa's subscription link below

Relatedly, “mano negra” does not mean “black man.” It doesn’t exactly mean “black hand,” either

this isn't just a MAGA thing, it's a cross-American one and *especially* a lot of people who came of age in politics or punditry in the 1990s. the idea that the news could happen to them - that the world might not be all going their way - is genuinely brain-breaking to a lot of them

I know enough people from enough ethnic groups in the Middle East to ever dare assume I know anything about anything about peoples’ conflicts over there. All I know is, it’s some real deep & real meaningful stuff & man, it’s hard on them all. There’s a lot of fully justified grievance all around
