That's understandable but a bit frustrating if you prefer to work without a script. I guess accessibility wins.

Assuming 'sword' isn't a phallic euphemism there.

Well thank the Lord for that!

I used to preach extempore most of the time. At some point, I lost my nerve and now rarely do so.

Surely is.

Priest with Canterbury cap

Priest with Canterbury cap

Ha ha, not that.🤣 This.
Square floppy thing, something like a graduation cap but without the cardboard

Trump. It is a distraction from all the Epstein stuff. And.... he's started a war so eventually he can potentially end it and add it to his imaginary list of 'wars he's ended'.

I remember having to restrain myself from suggesting to a then Archdeacon, some distinction between Canterbury caps and Dutch caps. I doubt he'd have got the allusion.

There's also a whole conversation around the acceptance of trans priests , at least legally, in the CofE , and the dissonance around same sex clergy couples. Please, I'm not making a naive/binary equivalence between trans and gay, but there's so much confused and ignorant dialectic.

A biretta would be good! When I was first licensed as a deaconess in 1980, obligatory Canterbury caps had only just been downgraded to optional. Thank the lord!

Really wondering if an Iranian nuclear weapons possibility is just as imaginary as the supposed 'weapons of mass destruction' that was used as a excuse to invade Iraq. It just feels like anti-muslim warmongering.

PS, can't imagine you in a Garden Party hat, somehow. I hate hats.

Aah but there's an awful lot of disconnect, isn't there! Too many people just don't use the brains with which God endowed them.

I know that! I was being grammar pedant, as opposed to liturgy pedant. I'm very adept at both!

Passed a chain carvery today with a large banner "book now for Morhers Day Weekend" . Setting aside the absence af an apostrophe, it's either a day, or a weekend. Not both. #Pedant'sCorner.

Well there's a challenge. It makes me wonder what might be hiding in there that can't be let out.

Love a thesis displacement activity! Could be a whole thesis in that!

Surely you're far too young to remember gonks!

So it's about educating both congregations to respect boundaries, and also reminding clergy that they can ignore emails and even phone calls during off duty times (emergencies excepted). Even in (an active) retirement I keep a day off. Good advice from my SD.

I still remember decades of phone calls on days off starting "I know it's your day off, but..." Thankfully email helps to manage some of that. But as a retired priest, I know my incumbent will respond if I send an email on his day off. Even if I tell him not to.

Brilliant. I sometimes feel we should have 'go in peace and share coffee', if only the coffee weren't so grim!

Reminds me of being Bishop's chaplain at an institution many years ago, and just before the final blessing the new priest's very patient small grandchild said very loudly, something like, is it finished now, grandpa? Out of the mouths.....

I was delighted to support this proposal in Synod, but very disappointed at the lack of diversity. All white, I think, and four out of 5 male. Way to go.

It's just gloomy clouds in Essex, so perhaps we've frightened off the aliens for now.
