some days i ask myself "shit, am I really cut out for this whole speedrunning thing? maybe i just got lucky and came on to the Rogue Squadron scene during a quiet time."

and then other days, i set three new world records in two hours, and lo, my question is answered

the only way to improve Star Trek: TNG would be if they'd give each major character an episode where they fucked a ghost trapped in a candle

Today's Trek ad is from 1990 - a UK ad for two power companies. This one's a doozy - between the obvious Englishisms, shameless use of TNG sets for TOS characters, and a transporter gag that's funnier in theory than it is in execution, I've got a soft spot for it just from its sheer weirdness.

An article in TV Zone issue 15 tells you all about the behind the scenes on this one - written by two non-Trekkies with a focus not on promoting the companies' services, but buying shares. National Power would go under a little more than 10 years later, with PowerGen following another 15 after that.

the prosthetics and makeup for this one were done by Matthew Mungle and Jamie Kelman, the latter of whom has since worked on Oscar-winning and nominated teams for media like Iron Man, the Star Trek reboots, Vice (which shares lots of skill overlap with this ad), and The Mandalorian

another Trek tie-in ad, this KFC spot from 1995 is one of my favorites

casting lookalikes with gelatine prosthetics to make them look even closer, original Trek VAs, a recreated bridge set, they really gave a shit for this one

some ad exec was like "if we're going to do this we're doing it RIGHT"
