If you’re wondering why god why, why is the NYT like this, always, it’s literally in the DNA from when Ochs first took over. In 1896. This amazing thing via @jamesinbrooklyn.bsky.social.

I’m obsessed with open retail in Oakland. It’s so hard right now. First is on Lakeshore, the second two are off Redwood Rd; could be a nice little public space but it’s behind a huge parking lot and never quite has a critical mass of traffic.

If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that Talarico, Platner and Spanberger have all done really strong and beautifully executed versions of this over the past couple weeks, and it’s likely to be the narrative backbone for Dems this cycle (unless the mod blobs knocks them off course)

Was looking for something else but just stumbled over this… we were doing everything we could to try to get Harris to change course and avoid the stupid iceberg as far back as early Sept. Change, econ, perceptions of extremism. It was all there.

β€œSquint and maybe this looks like a counterinsurgency strategy, an outnumbered group using its knowledge of and proximity to particularly important geographic terrain within the regional political economy to defeat a force-from-above that has captured the tools of the state.” 🀯🀯🀯

Another unexpectedly spectacular read from ORB. Oakland vs capital and the NYT.

Nobody should take messaging advice from me, but democrats might make a lot of mileage just by repeating facts about Iran like β€œit’s incredibly mountainous” and β€œthere are 90 million Iranians”

There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.

Also kind of crazy that we're having this respectful/nuanced (and for me productive) conversation over the exact lines of antisemitism in our fakakte media environment when this is what's going on with Rs. (and @housemajoritypac.bsky.social - put this stuff on here, people should see it)

06.03.2026 21:27 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This wasn't even a Justice Dems recruit, it was Daniel ... I'm spacing on his last name. It's in the long-ass Politico article. I met him, he's fine. The blame for this really should be on the DC/DSCC recruitment atrocities. They've been so awful for so long they made alternatives inevitable.

06.03.2026 21:15 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

He didn't say "Israel did 9/11" either though. I agree the conspiracy stuff is dumb but trying to weaponize all of this as equally bad antisemitism is what's really helpful to Bibi, which is why it's a line places like Insider are pushing. They're trying to do another Tlaib on him.

06.03.2026 21:12 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

kinda needed this today. i wish the fucking arc of history would bend a little more consistently towards justice. but it does bend.

06.03.2026 20:42 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The single biggest most critical difference for me is clearly and consistently differentiating between Israel (criticism very much in bounds, particularly this week) and "the Jews." (red flags) The Insider piece (agreed, they are sus) conflates them in a way Cornacchia actually doesn't.

06.03.2026 20:31 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

That's not what Cornacchia said though, in that article or from what I watched. He "claimed Israel would benefit if another 9/11-style attack" happened. So he's a crank and a bit of a nut, but that for me is a fairly distinct sentiment from "Jews did 9/11."

I think gutter racism is in a somewhat different category than conspiracy theories. And it's more like, if he went on someone who went on David Duke's show. But you're making it sound like Platner won't distance himself from outright holocaust denial and that's simply not accurate.

06.03.2026 18:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Don't get me wrong, clearly Platner's information environment is not great. He shouldn't be paying attention to anyone this adjacent to holocaust denial. But that's a potentially fixable problem at least. Guilt by headline and association is just feeding cynicism.
