Editing is my favorite part! 1st drafts are a big tub of fermented grain. Is it booze? Sure, but there's still a lot of junk mixed in. You don't just want it to burn; you want it to go down smooth.

In edits you get to distill it, clarify it, make it something folks want to put on their top shelf.

A first for me: two stories published in one week 😊

100-Foot Crow is the place to go for drabbles and I'm thrilled to be working with them again, so please check out "Spam Filter"!

My story "The NPC's Lot" is out today with Androids and Dragons! It's a collection of five vignettes highlighting the sorts of characters that are usually ignored in most fantasy tales. I'm super excited to see it in print - thanks to @jennarainhm.bsky.social for believing in it!

TBH it probably won't sell. Like three outlets buy novellas 😞

Don't look at it as wasting time on a single project. Look at it as time invested developing your skills as a writer! I've written 5 novels and this latest one might sell or it might not, but I know I'm getting better project to project.

I know it's because I'm about to be a father, but this story hit me like a truck. Not sure I've ever read a more affecting 100 words.

Novel writers: how long does that first draft take you?

I'm approaching the 5-month mark in my latest WIP and while I'm still really enjoying myself, there's also a fatigue and readiness to be done with it. Curious how long it takes for others to hit that threshold.

It's nutty how much social media has warped our expectations to the point that a great many people feel they are owed your private opinions on every public matter.

MRK should reply to every single person with "Mind your own business."

I can't really get into this in too much detail without revealing just how much Skyrim I played in college...

But yes.

a little bit of ichor's all I need

a little bit of spilled blood for the spark
a little invocation: be here now
a little bit of you keeping your vow

I'm right there with you! I used to despair that I couldn't achieve King's 2k per day law, but now I understand that the pace isn't important; it's about consistency.

I'm about 1/3 of the way thru a new novel (started 11/1) and as always it will be death by a thousand cuts.
