I'm a U.S. citizen. Why? Two reasons: Jus Soli (Right of the Soil) because I was born here and Jus Sanguinis (Right of the Blood) because at least one of my parents was a citizen. Trump wants to do away with Jus Soli and his supporters don't care because they have Jus Sanguinis, their parents are citizens. But here's the thing: WHY are my parents citizens? Well, same 2 reasons. And why are their parents citizens? Same two reasons. And why are THEIR parents citizens? Uh oh. Only Jus Soli. So if you take away Right of the Soil, then my great grandparents aren't citizens anymore. Well, that therefore removes Right of the Blood from my grandparents, which in turn removes it from my parents, which in turn removes it from myself. If you go back far enough, literally anyone who never actually signed any citizenship papers could be declared a non-citizen, and even those whose ancestors DID sign papers would need to produce those papers in court, which would mean they'd have to appear in court through due process; something this administration isn't allowing. This administration is setting itself up to be able to deport literally ANYONE they want to a Salvadorian prison. Have a JD Vance meme on your phone? Vaya con dios.
