More to the topic, it's been an eye-opener for me — since X added the feature to see the country where an account is based — that a lot of the accounts bashing Britain are in fact operating from within the country.

But such random discussions in a pub typically don't last beyond that day.

On the other hand, online platforms give persistence to such 'discussions' or trolling. And I use the term 'persistence' here in the context of computing.

Maybe I'm cynical, but it seems to me that spreading unfounded views about the world, disconnected from nuance, is inevitable with large platforms. In the past, it would be common to hear such random views in a pub or a public gathering.

I also think it is imperative that if you consume news, that you actually go to news websites and read entire articles. Too many people complain about the news media but they never actually read news articles properly and see how much excellent reporting still gets done everyday.

reddit used to be majority of my social media consumption till about 6 months ago. It's become a tremendously toxic place now. I didn't realize how much it was affecting my mental well-being.

I still use it, but I've reduced my time on it by 90% now.

I use a combination of social media. IG for real-life friends, Bluesky & Discord for tech, reddit for catch-all topics. And LinkedIn a little bit.

I've been putting together bits of knowledge from various tutorials and repos. About Minimal API, VSA, NSubstitute, HttpClient, etc.

It also made me appreciate how much better structured tutorials like Svelte's or React's are in progressively teaching you the plumbing.

I've been laying the foundations for a personal application project. Using ASP.NET Core for the backend with Vertical Slice Architecture.

Gotta say, I understand why they say you need to actually build stuff to get experience. Creating the scaffolding that underpins your app is quite monotonous.

But on a more serious note, this is why usage of gen AI incurring some significant cost will be eventually needed. So that people are more judicious and selective when using it.

I came across the Plain Language initiative of the US government last year, which has a wonderful guide on writing simply that a regular person can comprehend.

Even before AI generated content, Indian government bodies and the legislative branch (courts, lawyers) use horrendously complicated language. Complex enough for someone who knows English well, let alone those in towns and villages who don't.

I solved Day 1 about 90% of the way. Couldn't figure out one edge case.

But still had fun doing it and reading others' solutions in the subreddit.

On the rare occasion I open Facebook these days, half my feed consists of AI-generated images and videos of animals or cats.

AI is a valuable technology of course, but I can't wait for the tools to not be so free-for-all anymore so that it's not getting wasted on pointless content.

Have been using @frontendmasters.com for learning some API development. Despite the name, gotta say they have some really quality courses beyond frontend. And the UI is much better than other similar platforms.

Might be a noob question, but could this potentially have been avoided by using TS and annotating the return type of isOwner as boolean?

I got rid of my Fedora dual boot couple of months ago because I booted into it once in 3 months. Plus, I've never been a fan of the font rendering on Linux, which is kind of important when you're working with the Web.
