To understand Donald Trump you have to understand the dynamics of domestic violence.

Abuse with abandon and take no responsibility for anything. Lie and gaslight and never admit you’re wrong. Demand loyalty and lash out when your power is questioned.

Punish and blame. Power and control.

That’s not been my experience as an advocate. And when they do, most see it is a private issue rather than a larger pattern in a patriarchal society

I learned to drive highways on the LIE. And now I drive in Boston. Not really sure which is worse.

Abusers retaliate against those who dare question their power. Set limits. Say no.

It is peak abusive behavior to demand something and then lash out when the demand is not met.

I am a gun violence prevention advocate. We cannot solve gun violence in the United States when the perpetrator of gun violence is the government of the United States.

I just attended an event that focused on dreaming about the world we want to build, and it was a balm for my soul.

The work is hard, the harm is overwhelming, and there are still a lot of people who want to build something different. And do it together. I am grateful for that.

Essentially every "illegal" gun in USA started life as legal.

So, this production and distribution will make that even worse.

This is an excellent and infuriating read from the Globe’s Spotlight team on Harvard’s deep ties to Epstein. And they interviewed Dr. Claudine Gay to get her thoughts on Larry Summers. It felt redemptive and I loved these reporters for making the choice to do so.

I am a former rape crisis counselor. I’ve worked with way too many kids who were sexually assaulted, almost always by much older men. I still struggle to find the words to describe that experience, and what rape does to a child. 1/2

Because it is the US, and because gun violence is a part of our daily narrative, I suspect many have already moved on from this shooting in RI. But another victim has just died from their injuries. And I want to acknowledge that — and him.

Gun violence takes and takes and takes.

I often write about the violence of the Trump administration, and I have plenty of things to say about it.

But last night’s speech was so filled with violence I don’t even know where to start with it.

There can be no peace in a country led by someone who embodies violence the way Trump does.

The least the media could do is find the right words to describe the survivors.

Trump lies. And his lies about immigrants being violent are inspiring violence against immigrants. It’s shameful and it’s an act of violence unto itself.
