Oops, they did it again...
NH GOP just gotta be book banning.
Let's let them know (again) that the Granite State stands up for the freedom to read.

The state shouldn't be legislating questions of literary value, especially through a system that invites people to sue our schools.

Gov. Ayotte's veto of last year's book banning bill, HB 324, was upheld this week thanks to the hard work of freedom to read advocates across New Hampshire. Great job, everyone. Now on to the fight against the next book banning bill, SB 33.

Parents already have a right to opt their kids out of school materials they find inappropriate. New Hampshire doesn't need a law that calls for monetary penalties against school districts based on subjective standards of what is or isn’t objectionable.

WE DID IT! Gov. Ayotte sided with the freedom to read and vetoed HB 324. Huge thanks to all of the organizations, advocates, authors, and readers who helped make this happen.

This morning, we gathered outside Governor Ayotte’s office for our read-in to protest HB 324, the book ban bill.
If passed, HB 324 could create a chilling effect for educators across NH and make it easier to ban books in classrooms and school libraries across our state. #nhpolitics

New Hampshire just passed a book banning legislation that will cost taxpayers thousands of dollars—while pushing forward a state budget slashing public services.
Tell Gov. Kelly Ayotte that book bans are wrong for New Hampshire. Demand a veto of HB 324.

Yesterday, the NH Senate passed HB 324, a book banning bill that would potentially criminalize teachers for the stories in their classrooms.
Over 1300 people signed up to oppose this bill with only 39 in favor. NH wants freedom to read. Contact Gov. Kelly Ayotte and demand a veto.

Fight for freedom to read in New Hampshire schools! Call your state senator before May 15th and urge them to oppose HB 324.
This bill would subject educators to potential criminal charges for the books in their classroom and override local control over school library collections.

The text reads "Books Banned or Challenged in NH One book, “Body Talk: 37 Voices Explore Our Radical Anatomy” by Kelly Jensen, has been officially banned in New Hampshire, according to the American Library Association and PEN America. Many other books have been challenged in the Granite State. They include: “Gender Queer: A Memoir” by Maia Kobabe “Tricks” by Ellen Hopkins “Perfectly Normal” by Robie H. Harris “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman “I Am Jazz” by Jessica Herthel “Boy Toy” by Barry Lyga “Nick and Charlie: A Heartstopper Novella” by Alice Oseman “Being You: A First Conversation About Gender” by Megan Madison “Heartstopper. Volume 2” by Alice Oseman “Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope” by Jodie Patterson “Jack (Not Jackie)” by Erica Silverman “Grandad’s Pride” by Harry Woodgate “You Know, Sex: Bodies, Gender, Puberty and Other Things!” by Cory Silverberg “The Bare Naked Book” by Kathy Stinson “3 Minutes” by Sarah Pinborough “Here and Queer: A Queer Girl’s Guide to Life” by Rowan Ellis “I Lived on Butterfly Hill” by Marjorie Agosin"
Also, I want it clear that I've yet to see a sales boost or increased interest in my book despite it being one of the few we know has been banned in New Hampshire–where I'll be giving a talk on censorship next month, btw.
Stop with that lie. What actually happens is people lose access to a book.
