Racist and sexist roots in the cancellation of NSF grants under Trump:
Grants with female PIs canceled 2x more than men
Grants with Black PIs canceled 4x over White PIs
Grants with Hispanic PIs canceled 2x over White PIs
Grants with PIs with disabilities canceled 2x more than without
right wingers are like "you must never forget what The Left wants to do to you." and the thing they want to do to you is give you healthcare and make sure there isn't sewage in your drinking water

I use this for my courses, which means there are specific criteria, so please don't ask me to add you.
But feel free to follow these fine folks!

I have my students follow ocean science and conservation experts on social media for the semester. We start each class with "what did you learn about the ocean on social media this week" discussions.
Here's the assignment including my list of folks to follow, in case anyone wants to adapt it. 🧪🦑🌎
I couldn’t find a starter pack for POCs working in STEM, so I started one myself - my network here is still small and I didn’t want to assume how people identify, so please reply or DM me if you want to be added!

I am finding these starter packs useful for finding others with similar interests so here is another. Ping me if you work in the recreational fisheries science and management space and want to be added! #recreationalfisheries #angling #anglers #fisheriescience go.bsky.app/3UoUZkC

I run a small ocean science, conservation, education, and policy consulting firm.
I am looking for colleagues in similar positions, including small non-profits.
If that's you, please PM me or email me WhySharksMatter @ gmail
Friends, those "shark tracker" apps are cool, but they only track tagged sharks whose tags are broadcasting. Not seeing a tagged shark near you does not mean there is no shark near you.
If you've been in the ocean, there's likely been a shark not that far away, and it likely knew you were there.

Bluesky is also more useful if you follow some Feeds. I have some suggestions. 🧵

I’m David. I study shark conservation, and post about that as well as marine biology and the environment in general. I’m in the Washington, DC area.
