This is so interesting! It feels like it has to be an error.

I suddenly want to run a fantasy #TTRPG campaign loosely based on the first 2-3 Saints Row games. The PCs join the gang at the street level & become lieutenants as they drive out rival groups towards taking over the city.

inspired by random choices from @oneshotrpg.bsky.social worldbuilding deck

Girls will be like "I know a place" and return to watch a meteor shower with you in 50 years when you are about to die and she looks no older than the day you met.

It's not ad buy though. Anyone can use it for free. It is simply an accessible platform in an industry devoid of those.

I don't see it as a reflection on MCG anymore more than highlighting they don't have the time, money, or energy to monitor everything employees do. No RPG company has those resources.

MCG has almost always been on the roght side of industry ethics and leadership has earned some grace.

01.03.2026 16:12 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It happening twice raises the likelihood of it being an individual who doesn't appreciate how shitty it is to do this and thinks they are being clever.

01.03.2026 16:12 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

My strong suspicion is this is one employee who needs more training. If it was an isolated incident I'd be more in the camp of "this is two parts of one team not communicating," so the release was by a marketer and the post was by a social manager.

For me its a question of what it costs to police. This sort of thing. I don't think they have the resources to curate the board, but I wouldn't want to see them change access to the tool too much.

Besides, this clown show is a great demonstration of why misuse works against people who try it.

01.03.2026 05:32 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I brought it up because it's a story about use and protection of a community space. I consider anti means-testing and "nazi bar" vigilance as opposite ends of a philosophical spectrum on how to think about abuse and curation of community spaces and goods. That feels extremely relevant to me.

01.03.2026 05:19 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think it is more in line with those restaurants that have people pay what the want. There are people who might abuse it but its value to the people who do use it right outweighs whatever is lost through abuse.

I wouldn't say those restaurants or the Rascal community board are "asking" for abuse.

I was saying "this is not a situation that calls for aggressive policing." The nazi bar story is about vigilance over community spaces to prevent corruption. I brought it up because I don't think this situation resembles that.

I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them."

And i was like, ohok and he continues.

"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people."

And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.

No, I wasn't accusing you of that.

The "nazi bar" is a parable about community curation to prevent invasion by bad actors. I assumed you knew it because it's popular in left spaces. I'll grab you a link!

Lol, yeah, I actually fully forgot about the big yellow warning box.

This isn't a nazi-bar situation. It's a not means-testing public resource distribution situation.

01.03.2026 03:59 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'll concede that Rascal should consider changing the font color for headings on message board posts to distinguish them from pieces by their team.

That said, I don't blame community resources for failing when bad-faith actors abuse them. I blame the bad people for the abuse.

01.03.2026 03:59 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, but that policy is actually good. There are very few places small publishers can recieve coverage. It is a direct benefit to every indie designer out there that Rascal will post community sourced press copy.

Providing a good community resource is not "begging" for abuse.

01.03.2026 03:42 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I realize this is a pretty bad blunder, but MCG has made statements against LLMs so I don't want to accuse them of something I haven't caught them doing.

01.03.2026 03:37 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I have to imagine this is a deeply unaware social media manager fucking up. It too stupid to imagine more than one person signing off on.

01.03.2026 02:27 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Guys, this is a clear abuse of the community noticeboard system on Rascal, which benefits everyone.

Treating your own press release as though Rascal has given you a review is ethically bankrupt and– I can't emphasize this enough– deeply embarrassing.

I suggest you delete this.
