This is a point I occasionally think of and @dov.bsky.social made this thread about; escapist fantasy *is* a key font of literature, from Homer to Apuleius to Shakespeare, I mean, what else are the Books of the Maccabees, which is why I hate the anti-Romantasy snobbery sometimes

Worth mentioning too that escapist fantasy was one of the most popular literary genre in the Middle Ages; Sir Orfeo, SGGK, all the King Arthur stuff filtered through the troubadours.
