Also, we were just in Chicago and Detroit. We had a great time and didn't feel unsafe at all. All of this is such noise.

I felt comfortable sending my kid (17) on the train from just south of Baltimore to DC for an internship all summer, and it wasn't until Donny started "saving the city" that I felt super anxious about it. Don't buy into these BS narratives about our cities.

Same! Grew up in a very Republican household, but as I hit high school and beyond, so much of what happened under W's administration felt so wrong to me. Jon had a lot to do with me understanding it.

Just learned the German word "fuchsteufelswild" which I guess means "mad as hell," "furious," or "shirty." ("Shirty" is also a rather excellent new word for me.) An apt descriptor for my state of mind over the last, say, two months or so.
