The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

The Kimmel monologue was 18 minutes of extraordinary, raw television that will be hated by the people who wanted him off the air for good. Trump and Brendan Carr lost this one as badly as it's possible to lose.

This disciplining of winners who go over their speeches by deducting donations from a charity is beyond tacky & vile. Whoever thought of this should be put in awards show jail to never touch one again.

And IDC if they end up giving the full 100Kβ€”the optics are still gross. #Emmys

not in the top 10 things that's objectionable about this but speaks to the idiotic illiteracy of the trump supporters that they watch apocalypse now and think kilgore is cool. the point of the character is that he sucks and the way he sucks is emblematic of why the US lost the war!

A quote from the artist, journalist and author Suleika Jaouad on "The Wirecutter Show": "It wasn’t until I got sick at 22 and was diagnosed with leukemia that the journal really became a kind of lifeline. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that journaling saved my life."

Watch and decide, but I was never fully convinced he was shot in the first place. Never mind that his ear should’ve been blown offβ€”now completely healed. Or that the Secret Service took their time getting him offstage.

But from this angle: you see the photographers guided into place…

I also think we can't underestimate the role of his pardons for the J6 rioters. It was a pretty explicit "we have your back" to rightwing vigilantes.

The news isn’t being clear about this but to people hearing about these Minnesota shootings: Melissa Hortman is the Dem leader in the Minnesota House and was Speaker of the House 2019-2025. She’s probably the most influential state-level Democrat barring the governor.

When the dust has settled, we should probably take a look at A) the incel right's sweaty eagerness to masculinize the Trump/Musk split as the way gladiatorial men with great big weenies fight and B) the speed with which just about everyone else compared them to women or gay men.

Broadcast News: Nothing Like Wrestling With a Moral Dilemma, Is There? No one really changes. But, 'Broadcast News' asks, isn’t that kind of beautiful?

"BROADCAST NEWS is about friendship and not knowing how to love and broken trust and resignation. It’s about watching people around you make different choices while finding a way to justify and live with the choices you’ve made."

People think AI images of Hollywood sign burning are real

AI generated slop is tricking people into thinking an already devastating series of wildfires in Los Angeles are even worse than they are β€” and using it to score political points.

Mark my words: right now, it's an editorial cartoon being killed by the brass of The Washington Post. Pretty soon, it's a major story about Trump's corruption being killed by the brass.

This will happen. Get ready for it.

Americans are at risk of being sucked into Trump’s delusions again. For the media to continually allow Trump to lie and manipulate unchecked is gross professional malpractice

Now watching (for the second time) this film about a cat πŸˆβ€β¬› that really just wants to take a nap but the world is crumbling around them due to rising waters which show no signs of abating. We Do What We Can to Endure: A Ghost Story (2017) On the simple poetry of David Lowery's "A Ghost Story"

β€œIf we look at A GHOST STORY in this way, as a poem of a film in a world full of prose, it becomes necessary to talk about it in a different way, too. Not as something that needs to be wrestled to the ground, but instead as something to be experienced.” - @chadperman.bsky.social

Here is why I am delighted by WICKED: I always believe that it is possible to pull off the Three Penny Opera phenomenon: a musical which criticizes society’s wrongs at the same time that the artist achieves a commercial boulevard hit. WICKED, HAMILTON, BARBIE-works built upon public myth.

MAGA keeps saying the war in Ukraine needs to end, and I agree, but I never hear them say the easiest way for it to end - which is Putin stopping his war of aggression, which he can easily do anytime he wants. No, according to them, the US and Ukraine is to blame for the war.

If/when Trump pardons 1/6ers and prosecutions of him are dead, there will be a strong media push toward "turning the page" and "looking forward, not backward." Trump will rewrite 1/6 entirely. Dems need to think now about how they're going to handle this.
