I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
Sahar Delijani, Iranian author

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

In the foreground, yellow daffodils and purple croci are in bloom in grass at a cliff edge. You can also see the shadow of the photographer (me). Beyond the cliff edge is a view over South Bay in Scarborough; the sea and sky are a vivid blue in the sunshine.

Friends! For the @openuniversity.bsky.social’s free learning platform I wrote a course: Exploring Ovid’s big ideas. It’s about Pacific Islander creation myth, monsters, Brazilian art, how stories change their meaning across time, British-Nigerian poetry, and of course… about Ovid. πŸ’»πŸΊ

One of my favorite things about Ramadan is its emphasis on giving and empathy for others.

In what's become a 7 year old tradition, every day of Ramadan, I'll be spotlighting a single charity or cause--some international, some US-based.

I’m increasingly angry with the BMA and UK doctors more generally, when it comes to their overall silence on our governments ideological control of trans healthcare.

It’s not hard to say what Dr. Reiner says here⬇️

Sympathy and a brief β€œit’s out of my hands” is not enough.

A hand wearing a pink, green and black fingerless glove and with sparkly fingernails holds a takeaway cup, which says "Nova coffee". Blurred in the background is a view over South Bay in Scarborough.

A story in three acts:
Made myself a flask of tea
Forgot my flask of tea
Found a coffee van
Hurrah!

The EAA Exec needs to understand that we want to protect the Association! We'd love to work constructively with the Exec, but we oppose murky deals, lack of transparency & lack of respect for the membership. The vote MUST be honoured! @archagainstaparth.bsky.social @blacktrowel.bsky.social

I see the University of York is offering a fixed-term post in public history for the same salary (Β£37k) I earned for a fixed-term post in public history, also in Yorkshire, in 2012. Had the rate risen with inflation it would now be Β£53k.

A laminated notice on a cream-painted wall. The notice is on white paper with a blue border. The text reads: "Many thanks for helping us maintain our Green Status by switching off the towel railway when not in use. The switch is outside the bathroom next to the bathroom door."

Imagine my delight: a towel railway! And then my disappointment as I realise this is in fact a translation error... πŸš‚

If you are a fan of graphic narrative of any type, but nonfiction/memoir/journalism in particular - or if you’re a visual thinker and want some inspiration for using that to write/speak/create in any way - I can’t recommend this book highly enough!

Help Save Leicestershire’s Bronze Age Torc The Leicestershire Torc is a stunning 3,200-year-old gold object dating to the Middle Bronze Age period and is the only torc ever discovered in the county. It was a piece of very high-status jewellery...

Another one.

This is a really important find - unique in fact. It has slight similarities to a torc from Moulsford (in Reading Museum) but apart from that it's a totally new type. 🧡

PLEASE SHARE, thank you
