Avebury. The sheer scale is breathtaking, but the atmosphere is still welcoming. My favourite visit started at the Sanctuary, and I walked the path of the Avenue to the circle. It felt like a pilgrimage.

Spent a couple of happy hours at Castlerigg stone circle this afternoon. The views in every direction are stunning, because the stones are cradled by a ring of fells.
