I was telling stories to the class in Infant School, straight out of my head. I have been attempting to write fiction since my teens. Never had any kind of formal training, in part because I am impatient with it. I believe you are born with this - talent/curse. You just have to hone it, over years.

Writing in biro instead of fountain pen. My ghastly English teacher, Mrs Macrill, had a thing about it. I'm surprised she didn't want me to write with a quill pen and ink-horn, a la mode Chaucer.

I am currently struggling to motivate myself. I'm not sure whether it's better to ride this mood out or try to do something about it. I'm inclined to sit it out and wait for the mood to shift.

'Copyhold' meant the tenant had a copy of a tenancy agreement that was enshrined in the manor rolls. The system of copyhold survived until - 1922! Its abolition meant that manor courts were left with no real functions of any significance. But - 1922!

Serfdom in England was already well on its way out at the time of the Peasants Revolt of 1381. More and more landlords took cash instead of services. Though odd 'services' like 'boon hens at Christmas' sometimes survived. The new tenancies evolved into 'copyhold'.

There is a way of turning it off as I found it the other week. Unfortunately, in my usual chaotic way, I can't remember how. I do find these 'assets' annoying. On the whole, I prefer to write without them.

Maybe she would like to bring back widows of tenants-in-chief being forced to remarry by the King. It would potentially be quite lucrative for the Treasury. Or maybe revive scutage. Danegeld? The Alien Tax?

Is insanity compulsory for writers?

Or is it just an assisting factor?

I am on a series. Working fitfully on Book 3. But often find myself writing bits of Book 4. I think it's good to get ideas down when they hit you, even if out of sequence.

I'm happily married in this sense - even if you're Miss World and a multi-millionaire, I'm not interested and never will be.

OTOH, if you're interested in medieval history, I'm happy to bore with that.

The afterlife is alive with possibility, and being dead is certainly not a limiting factor when it comes to travel...
