Also in this way a majority did not come soon enough. So to attain
some of its aims the Socialist Party had to make alliances, alliances with other parties. Sometimes in parliament, sometimes already at the polls, sometimes after the polls. This was called then “constructive policy,” which means: reduction of the workers’ demands to that minimum that even the capitalist class cannot seriously object to.
Now Socialists get government posts; they become town mayors,
aldermen, even ministers. Not as independent delegates of the working
class, but by the consent of their allies, delegates of the capitalist class. This is called “conquest of power step by step,” or “not being afraid of taking responsibilities.”
What are these responsibilities? As aldermen or ministers, they have
to manage the general affairs of state or town under capitalism. Of course they cannot take socialist measures. They have to conduct affairs for capitalism. They certainly try to get some reforms for the workers. As far as capitalism allows it. But most things they have to see to are interests of capitalist society.
So Social Democrats grow into the role of capitalist politicians.
Surely they are different from the hardboiled brutal type of capitalist
politicians, who uphold the authority of the ruling class by brute force.
They have more humanity, they introduce reforms, they try to smooth
down the class antagonism and to render capitalism more endurable.
They think themselves Socialist politicians, taking the first steps in transforming capitalism into socialism. But when fierce struggles arise, strikes
or hunger revolts, they have, as public officials, the duty to send police or
militia against the revolting workers. A Socialist mayor who assists the
strikers from public funds, and sends the police against the Pinkertons,
is a white raven and would be removed by a higher authority very soon.

In "The Workers' Way to Freedom," Pannekoek warns that socialists in power often become "delegates of the capitalist class." When we hold office under capitalism, the pressure to manage the status quo, rather than transform it, is immense. 🧵 1/4

Unionized baristas want Olympics to drop Starbucks as its 'official coffee partner' A Starbucks workers union filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee, challenging the chain's role as the 2028 Games' 'official coffee partner.'

We've filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee opposing Starbucks's 2028 Olympic partnership.

"[SBWU] contends... that Starbucks’ treatment of U.S. workers looking to unionize... — as well as allegations of forced labor abroad — conflict with the Olympic Games’ code of ethics."

The NYC General Meeting today is neither legitimate nor democratic and we urge comrades to VOTE NO on both proposals.

We are aware of Harper O'Connor's video guide to DSA politics and its similarities to our own guide narrated by caucus member Alex M.

Tweet from DSA elected Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: "Marjorie Taylor Greene's amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it. What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dom capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue. I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end. That is a simple and clear difference of opinion that has long been established. I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza." LSC repudiates the content of this quoted tweet.

LSC's position is clear: if DSA does not hold its electeds accountable to DSA's political mission, we will fail to advance our long-term goal of socialism and liberation in the United States and abroad. It's why we introduced our resolution to censure AOC well before her Iron Dome vote.

Body text under the white solid line:
R15 creates a Rural Organizing Working Group whose responsibility it will be to extend DSA’s organizing reach to rural areas.
Our amendment, R15-A: Rural Organizing Under the GDC, makes the Rural Organizing Working Group a subcommittee under the GDC.

Subtitle: amending R28: Anti-Imperialism in the 21st Century
Body text under the white solid line:
R28 brings the ‘big tent’ to our international solidarity work in order to build “towards an international revolutionary movement for democratic socialism.” Additionally, it would emphasize our opposition to NATO, the US war machine, and the funding of genocide in Gaza.
Our amendment, R28-A: Decolonial Anti-Imperialism, builds on this approach by strengthening DSA’s commitment to an anti-interventionist and decolonial international practice. We emphasize the Palestinians’ right of resistance, our categorical opposition to US intervention abroad, and redouble our commitment to indigenous liberation.

Body text under the white solid line:
R35 “instructs the NPC to implement more stipends for elected leaders in next year’s budget,” given that almost all national leaders are unpaid, restricting their capacity for political leadership.
Our amendment, R35-A: Stipend the NPC, removes non-NPC leadership stipends, creates a $1000 dollar per month stipend for at-Large NPC members, and specifies that only NPC or NCC members may receive leadership stipends, as stipends and convention leadership elections for bodies nominally directed by the NPC or NCC would create dual mandates which undermine the authority of the organizations’ primary elected leadership.

In the interest of good faith debate, LSC members have authored or coauthored amendments to some resolutions which the caucus could not support as written, or which we felt could otherwise be improved.
