Went through a major Doors thing in my teens which didn't really last. Bar the first and last album I find them hard to listen to now....and while I've enjoyed listening back to this it won't make my final 25.

This is a difficult one. Probably the second best Christmas album ever but it's difficult to be objective about it in August.
Is it one of the greatest records of the 60s?
Probably not.
It won't make my final 25.

Here we go

4 out of 5.
Not bad

Hi Richard.
Hope all's well.
My top 5 is
1 Bob Dylan Highway 61 Revisited
2 Them Them Again
3 Neil Young Everybody knows This Is Nowhere
4 Byrds Notorious Byrd Brothers
5 Beatles White Album

Number 1
Dylan didn't go electric to sound like everybody else.
He took his music in a new direction and ultimately kick-started the counter culture. The most important record of the decade was always going to be number 1.
#5albums50s60s4
Number 2
I've always preferred the 2nd Them album. That incredible voice that would explode on Astral Weeks starts to emerge and you can see hints of what was to come in the songwriting.
#5albums50s60s4
Number 3
The original Crazy Horse sounded nothing like the version we're used to. This particular line up could have made incredible music had fate not intervened. I still remember him singing Down By The River in Slane in '92.
#5albums50s60s4
Number 4
The recording was shambolic. People kept joining and leaving and they finished the album as a trio. Having said that it's one of their best albums.
Draft Morning is the most moving anti war song I've ever heard.

I'll just repost this for the night that's in it.
#5albums50s60s4
Take care and mind yourself Richard

Ok top 5.
Number 5
This album has been in my life for so long it's hard to know what to say about it.
4 sides of absolute bliss (including Number 9) and I never tire of it.
It's also my daughters favourite album.

Just missing out on my 5. Probably the best soundtrack ever, and the film is pretty incredible as well. Saw Ennio live once with an 80 piece choir and 100 piece orchestra.
#5albums50s60s4
Number 7
It's not even her best record but it's the one that put her up there and probably defined her.
Nobody else sings like Aretha and there isn't an artist on the planet today who could even contemplate making a record like this.
#5albums50s60s4
I really thought about this one. So hard this time round.

To be honest I prefer Bob when he went electric but this is still one of his finest.
The best of the 4 acoustic albums and probably the one that kick-started everything.
#5albums50s60s4
Number 9
Grams finest hour, certainly as a songwriter. He had the freedom to do what he wanted to do creatively and his head was still fairly together.
Great record.
#5albums50s60s4
Time to cut the 10 down to the final 5.
Number 10
Forget the film and the accompanying soundtrack. The original album featuring just The Who is incredible and not a million miles away from the sound they got on Sell Out
#5albums50s60s4
This is when the music started to seriously change. The creativity went to another level and the songs got deeper and more introspective.
Genius beckoned.
This one just misses out on my final 10.
#5albums50s60s4
Released 50 years ago and it still delivers a powerful kick.
One of the loudest records in my collection.
I can't fit it into my final 10 though.
#5albums50s60s4
Going to be so hard to cut the final 15 down to 10 but here goes.
I'll start with these 3 and decide on the other 2 later.

My older cousin had a copy of Abbey Road when I was growing up which I always liked but I thought it was strange that it didn't sound like The Beatles.
