listening to Jay Gruber discuss Bluesky - we want to build an ecosystem where anyone can particpate in moderation, including third party middleware - a marketplace for sharing apps that help with moderation as a service. Yes - this is such an important aspect of protocol based platforms.

Who can read DMs? A diagram shows Alice sending a DM to Bob through Bluesky. Alice and Bob can read the DM. Bluesky can read the DM, but access is carefully controlled, including for moderators. Eve (an outsider) cant read the DMs

DMs on Bluesky will not be "end-to-end encrypted" until we are able to do some more protocol work.

We have very careful access controls within our systems.

If you're extremely privacy conscious, I'd recommend using Bluesky DMs to share your Signal accounts!

I think the reality is that 99% of users don’t care about decentralization in any way. they just want a twitter clone that isn’t run by Musk.

How can social media apps sustain a good business?

The way to build a resilient forum for public conversation that lasts for the long-term is to build it on an open protocol, like the web itself. Services like websites can be built on top, but each can be run differently, and if users can easily move it keeps services accountable to users.

I like how Bluesky feels like 2012 twitter.

Can confirm

Twitter made it easy to connect to strangers. And have great conversations with them.
