More than 200 million liters of radioactive waste are stored in decades-old tanks at the Hanford Site in Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant was built to turn that nuclear waste into glass; it started operating in 2025. cen.acs.org/physical-che...

Registration and abstract submission is open for eurobic18.eu. Hopefully we see all of you (bio)inorganic chemists in Groningen - the coolest place to be in Europe this summer (and probably also a bit wet but fantastic speakers!).

Subcellular targeted anion transporters Ryder etΒ al. report the first subcellular targeted anion transporters that accumulate in specific membrane-bound organelles to bias their natural propensity to depolarize lysosomes. Confocal microscopy revealed the ability of the naphthalimide-based transporters to localize within their intended organelles. Analogs that contained endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and lysosomal targeting motifs showed an enhanced H+/Clβˆ’ transport ability and cytotoxicity compared with non-targeted analogs. Moreover, lysosomal accumulation improved cancer cell selectivity, while ER and mitochondrial localization enhanced apoptosis in cancerous cells.
