2/2 Law is a business, and unless the ABA/state bars allow business professionals to be partners, the running of law firms--the business decisions--will be made by people not trained for these roles. And, as we know, these roles often go to people who aren't busy (have big books). #Businessoflaw

It would be more helpful if they required attorneys to take courses on how to run their businesses. I always ask summer clerks, "How many of you went to law school to practice law?" All hands go up. I follow up with "How many of you went to law school to run a business?" Zero. 1/2 #businessoflaw

Big Law Gets Cold Feet on Pro Bono Work in the Wake of Heightened Scrutiny Leaders and other personnel in some law firms’ pro bono practices initially responded to the Trump administration’s executive orders with a “pause” as they tried to make sense of the current environment, according to one director at a civil rights organization.

I definitely called this. The EOs would have a chilling effect on pro bono, and the numbers now prove it. #RuleOfLaw

This is a PR/crisis communications failure and the whole industry is to be blamed.

The legal industry as a whole does not respect the BUSINESS of law. Lawyers routinely dismiss the C-Suite as “non-lawyers” and negate our business advice. This is a classic tale on a massive scale.
