COMMENTARY — A hodgepodge of thoughts as March comes in
A few random, yet important, thoughts ... • Saturday, Feb. 28, was a great day for West Hudson. That afternoon, Michael Fernandez, the long-time owner of the Spanish Pavillion in Harrison, hosted an open house at the restaurant in honor of the 50th anniversary of its opening (it actually opened on Feb. 29, 1976.) Hundreds of his friends, family, patrons, etc., came by for a fun afternoon. Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle presented Fernandez, his wife, Josie, and his mum a plaque to commemorate the special occasion. Congratulations, Mike and Josie, on 50 great years — we look forward to your summer celebration of the milestone.

Nutley boys bowling wins sectional title
Nutley boys bowling coach Frank Sasso can remember the empty feeling his team felt 12 months ago when they left North Brunswick's Lucky Strike having suffered its only defeat of the season in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 final to Delbarton. While that feeling stuck to this veteran group of Maroon Raider bowlers, it's one they were able to rid themselves of on Saturday. Fifty-two weeks after that deflating loss, Nutley again returned to the final at Lucky Strike, only this time, the feeling was one of elation as the Raiders defeated Chatham, 2-0, in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 championship.
