I reckon this is one where Nintendo step in and INSIST he only communicate in soundbytes from the game. Could be wrong, though.

A parody of bad SEGA Master System Box Art, as if Sonic 1 had gotten such treatment. On the standard Master System box art template, a squidgy little Sonic, drawn with a bunch of off-model details as if someone only had a blurry screenshot of the game for reference, is in an ambigiously lame action pose with one arm and leg outstretched, next to a ring.

Another parody of bad SEGA Master System Box Art, this time for Sonic 2. This time the artist seems to have recieved a little more guidance - we see a slightly more on-model western Sonic - but still with a few odd incorrect details. He taps his foot and looks impatient as an equally only-vaguely on-model Robotnik steals away Tails, who is mostly just a pair of eyes in a dark cage hanging from the Egg Mobile, with a pair of hands gripping the bars and his two tails sticking out the back.

Another parody of bad Master System Box art, of Sonic 1 again but this time extra low-effort. Sonic, represented as a completely undetailed blue ball, jumps towards two rings. That's it.

Another parody of extra bad Master System Box art, of Sonic 2. Sonic's gloved hand comes from out of frame, giving a two-fingers peace sign, alongside Tails' two tails. Once again, that's it.

Sonic 1 and 2 for SEGA Master System, but if they had gotten that Crap Master System Box Art treatment (please enjoy both "somewhat crap" and "really crap" versions).

Happy 8-Bit Day (8/8)! ...Which isn't a thing but my friends and I think it ought to be.

There are so many Netflix shows I haven’t started because I’m put off by having to sit through a whole hour long pilot before I even determine whether I like it or not

“Sonic would never say that”? Sonic would say whatever silly bullshit the writers put in his mouth and has done so since the beginning. He once told kids they could trust a police officer. Anything goes for that idiot hedgehog.

It’s complicated! Being a fan of Classic often means telling newer fans “trust me bro” since so many of his recent releases have been mediocre. Even Mania, which I love, was (as intended) more of a nostalgia fest than its own unique title. It can be hard to make a case for it!

I’m reminded of that one panel Achewood strip where Teodor is dancing with his dick out in front of a distraught Lyle while saying “Thanks for reading my comic strip today!” and that’s often how I feel about exposing people to our Sonic podcast.

Today’s episode of The Hill Is Always Greener is another one of those I warned you about. You know, where I’m intolerable in it.

Why? Well the topic is Classic Sonic, you see.

I thought he was just a silly guy when I first played, wasn’t until I actually bothered to do his story that it became clear that no, he’s BROKEN
