The caveat here is this is very much a traktor workflow - its built to be used in this way so super simple with the rotary dials for loops and jumps, can be done on other systems but not as fluidly or easily, which I think is probably one of the key reasons why it remains popular w/ techno DJs,

a lot depends on genre ofc but i dont like to ever loop shorter than the longest pattern or phrase in the loop, suppose it means for some genres a 2 or even 1 bar loop is fine but rarely in techno, sometimes its 4 sometimes its 16 bar loops that work but its all down to the individual track(s)

best loops are 4 bars with some change on the last bar though hopefully you're only using the loops briefly for consistency.

so, err, track selection, loops (& EQ obviously, FX Maybe?) also sometimes you're gonna have to loop and then beat jump back to keep the pattern - 1 or 2 bar breaks etc.

after that its about having some clean loops prepared, ideally 4 bars, 2 if necessary, so you can follow the progression of either track, typically i'll follow the progression of track 1 for the first half of the mix and then track 2 for the second half, then hotswap, rinse and repeat.

my blends are approx 3 mins each on average so i mix slow i guess, so, i guess i might be able to answer this properly, maybe.

Main thing is (as always) track selection, want the right genre and the phrases to compliment each other and enough space in the tracks to be able to layer comfortably.
