I had a really cool conversation with a translator today about how the concept of "heaven" might be different between North America and China. So shout out to translators who not only translate but provide insight into culture!

Once again, I'm baffled by the passage of time. Apparently, I haven't published any of my own writing (except for blog posts on my own sites) since 2023. I know I've been focused on my editing career and revising my manuscript, so it's not like I'm not doing writing-related things, but damn...

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

I am fascinated by the differences between comic artists' processes. Some don't thumbnail, some skip pencils, some do multiple rounds of both before inking. And I get to see it all!

Not sure I'm getting over the awkwardness of interviewing people for research purposes, but I've done several now, so project progress is being made

It's such a bummer to see hard working writers and creators repeatedly lose platforms that were previously helping them get their work out to the world

Anyone have tips for collecting oral histories/interviewing people for research purposes? I have five days before I depart for a trip during which I'll be researching for a comic project, and while I'm pretty comfortable with reading-based research, my goal is to actually talk to people

I regret to inform myself that going out and being social is actually a form of rest and does help with productivity and focus
