I would argue they knew exactly what they were doing, which was deliberately sabotaging needed public works programs by offering snake oil they never had any intention of delivering.

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

The fact his campaign manager is not sending him there suggests to me one of two explanations:
1. They do not think he could adequately reassure Jews of his lack of antisemitism.
2. They think his base would see even speaking to Jews in a shul as inherently disqualifying, or at least as a negative.

Sure, there are a lot fewer Jews in NYC than in Maine, but that one cuts both ways: It would actually be easier to speak to a large percentage of the Jews in Maine just by going to one of the shuls in Portland.

If you truly believed Graham Platner is not antisemitic at all, you would be sending him to synagogues in Maine to speak to Jews and reassure them of that. That is what Mamdani did during the NYC mayoral election. The fact they are not doing that is... telling.

Nashville Noticias staffer Estefany Rodríguez was detained by ICE in South Nashville on Wednesday morning. There was no warrant for her arrest. Her attorneys have filed an emergency petition in federal court seeking a writ of habeas corpus, or an immediate review of whether or not her detention is legal. Rodríguez, who was in the car with her husband — a U.S. citizen — has been following all the legal steps to citizenship. In her job, Rodríguez has reported several stories that hold ICE accountable, and it’s unclear whether her detention was retaliation. As of Thursday afternoon, she was in Alabama en route to an ICE processing center in Louisiana.
