I'm so grateful to the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys for the incredible honor of being recognized as the Judge of the Year. Coming from other women in the practice, the recognition of my commitment to the rule of law means the world to me!

Had the best time with the Iredell County Democrats last night at their annual Kennedy-Carter dinner. It was an honor to keynote the dinner, celebrate their incredible accomplishments last year, and get excited for all the voters they’ll empower in the next 13 months!

It was great to be with more than 100 young constitutional scholars and future jurists this week at Duke.

A little more than two years ago, Governor Cooper first appointed me to serve as your N.C. Supreme Court Justice. Thank you for electing me to keep that seat, and I pledge to continue serving the people of this state without fear or favor.

I’m honored to receive the Jan Allen Courage Award from @lillianslist.bsky.social on behalf of the millions of North Carolinians who stood up and demanded their voices be heard.

On the anniversary of 9/11, I’m thinking of the brave first responders who jumped into action to save lives, and holding close the families who lost loved ones that day.

The Pender County NAACP had a screening yesterday of the PBS documentary American Coup: Wilmington 1898 and it was such an honor to speak to them before the movie about why we must be so vigilant about learning from history. Thank you for inviting me!

Yesterday was a big day at my house. It marked 10 years since I rescued my dog Goose (and what we call his 11th birthday). He was so sick in February that I wasn’t sure we’d make it to that anniversary. But he bounced back! Cheers to a decade with the best furry friend! ❤️🐶🐾 #internationaldogday

Bonus was that Carolina Federation was having its state convention at the same hotel, so I got to pop in to say thank you to them for all their incredible work on behalf of me and the fight for our courts ❤️

It’s been a busy August. Earlier this month, it was honor to celebrate 90 years of the work of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People! Their endorsement and work in Durham were critical to our victory.

Happy Indian Independence Day! Such an incredible celebration of the world’s largest democracy today in Morrisville.

I’ve spent the last few days with incredibly energized organizers, from @netrootsnation.bsky.social in New Orleans to the @downhomenc.bsky.social convention in Raleigh. And this was the most common refrain I heard.

It was never an option for me to do anything less.

It was an incredible honor to have the support of @wearencae.bsky.social in my election last year and the fight to defend my election this year. So I was thrilled to join @friendsforbatch.bsky.social and @anitaearls.bsky.social in celebrating our public educators last night!

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Henderson County residents showed up for each other and worked hard to turn voters out in the 2024 election. It was an honor to speak to a packed house to thank them for their efforts!

Last month, I was delighted to be invited to address the Western North Carolina Annual Conference of the AME Church. Our vibrant faith communities remind us that tending to the needs of the least of us is a job for all of us.

Last month, I was delighted to join a host of amazing attorneys at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice convention in Charlotte.  I'm grateful for attorneys whose mission is protecting people, preventing injustice and promoting fairness.

Three years ago, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. SCOTUS decides what the federal constitution means - the NC Supreme Court decides what the state constitution means. North Carolinians, you have power at the ballot box to elect justices who will always defend your rights & liberties!

It is my honor to serve the people of North Carolina, and I am committed to defending the rule of law and upholding the constitution with the utmost independence and integrity. I am so grateful for all of the people who made my investiture as an Associate Justice of the NC Supreme Court possible.

On Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Thinking today of their families and all who serve. I will always stand up for your rights.
