Haha it’s what the Aussies call burlap. The Art dept is predominantly Australian and their lingo has filtered through the whole crew even to Jeff. Hessian, Eski (cooler), Mozzies (mosquitos) are all part of the crew vernacular.

I’m my 20’s then and same reaction to Snatch - still haven’t rewatched. But Lock Stock was so formative for me at that age, I’m shocked your sons didn’t bite. Man, that makes me feel old….

Went back and watched season 1 during the pandemic. Fascinating to see it so raw. Apparently the moment in episode one when Hatch is up in the tree asking why are they really here is the moment the producers turned to each other and said, “we might have a show here.”

Those times seem so precious now. We had to actively go to sites, now we just scroll. Sort of like Spotify and record stores. We used to have to search out music with effort and take a chance on a purchase. Now the algorithm. It’s all so meh.

Remember when everyone owned a little piece of the internet? Message boards. Blogs. WEBSITES. It was the Wild West and so much fun. Not only is our current reality boring and stale in comparison it’s just plain dangerous to give so much power to so few.

Thanks for writing this. All of us working in the industry have been struggling to figure out how we’ve gotten to such a point and you’ve done such a good job of following Netflix’s trajectory to explain a lot of the issues we’ve all been struggling with. Much needed read.

Insightful and scathing look into how the tv and film business got to such a culturally vacuous point. The creators and the viewers are equally unimportant when the only thing that matters is keeping the streaming machine running.

Lost a couple of nights to this game already and haven’t left the Vatican. Tons to explore and do. The Indy voice actor is amazing. Had to look it up to be sure it wasn’t Harrison Ford!
