I didn't understand this when I started as a content creator but now I think it is the single most important thing to long-term online success: 

You don't want to build a product. 
You don't want to build a channel.
You don't want to build a following.

You want to build a BRAND.

More under-rated social media growth hacks:
- make your messaging stupid-simple. 
- talk to one person
- don’t overthink it
- social media growth does not equate to business success
- seo matters. 
- help people; provide value and the rest will flow
- be yourself & your people will come

If you do something for one month for the first time, but then say “I do this every month” in your marketing claims, I do not trust you.

The first question I ask ANYONE before working with them: how do you want to help people?

Stop saying digital marketer. Everyone. It’s like saying “I’m a mammal” when we already know you’re a human.

Everyone promoting/marketing anything online is a digital marketer. Reframe it like this: What is the word for how you are helping people? What do you provide? help people achieve?

Hot take: Income claims for your online business are NOT ILLEGAL. Illegal income claims are illegal. Legal income claims are not. Obviously. The problem is most people don't know the right and wrong ways to do income claims. 

When I see online coaches & self-proclaimed "digital marketers" (side note: everyone promoting anything online is a digital marketer) touting the fact that they made all their money without ever using ads (& they think that's a brag) all I can think ab is how much money they left on the table.

The tiktokification of Instagram is here - #digitalmarketing community (the actual digital marketing community, not just the people who say they are "digital marketers" but do only like 1% of what actual digital marketing is) what are your thoughts?

I can’t believe I have to say this: if you are a copywriter cold-dming/emailing people to market yourself, here are a few basic tips (once you can handle these basics, as a digital marketer, I can help you actually make more $):
- do not have typos. 
- do not insult the person you are pitching to.

PSA: There is NO SUCH THING as "affiliate resell rights." You're either an affiliate or a reseller for a specific offer.

How can you tell which? Follow the $:

If customer's $ goes DIRECTLY TO YOU from your checkout page = reseller/seller.
If $ goes to a brand & you get a commission = affiliate. 

If you are still buying followers or engagement on social media, you are literally paying to sabotage your account. 

Hot take: most people who think they do digital marketing don't understand what digital marketing actually is, and they do about 2% of what digital marketing actually is... and they do it poorly. 

If you find yourself wanting more followers on any social platform, the real question is: WHY? 

Your answer to THAT question should drive your entire social media strategy. 

Growth for growth's sake is not a strategy & is a dumb goal. 

Sadly, though, it is what most people think they want & need.

Entrepreneurs / small business owners: what are the childhood movie / book / show / song quotes or themes that still motivate you to this day?

I’ll go first:
- So many scenes in Mulan
- That scene in Land Before Time when all the dinosaurs go snuggle with Little Foot overnight. 

If you post or reel does terribly, then no one saw it, so who cares? 

And if it does well, YAY for everyone!

You literally have nothing to lose. 

Just keep posting. 

Best advice for your marketing messaging: think about how STUPID the average person is.

Then, by definition, HALF OF ALL PEOPLE ARE MORE STUPID. 

Simplify your messaging. You are talking to 2nd/3rd graders.

Maybe you don't realize how far you've come because you keep raising the bar

When I see marketing messaging like "get in on this before it's too late" or "get in early" then I want nothing to do with the product. Anyone else?

The biggest hurdle in marketing?

People don't know what they need.

They THINK they know what they need, but they are usually wrong.

They know what they WANT.

But they don't know what need.

Whatever you aren’t changing you are actively choosing.

With AI, you can maybe 10x your productivity. But with AI and strategic automation: 1,000,000x. Yes, literally, 1,000,000x.
