When I first started I planned to do attached everything, custom fit, full suit, and my friend who let me try his gear on was like "no no no, you're a standard small, don't do attached stuff right away, sweat pools and cleaning is annoying" so I will relay that advice and stand by it.

All of my suits currently are from KinkProjects and they're pretty affordable and have held up for me for a REALLY long time, and by the time something happens to a suit, it's usually time to get a new one. My current three suits I've had for like 3+ years at this point and still going.

Get an idea of the experiences you want to have and knowing that rubber is very tactile and sensory, decide the kind of gear you want to get based on the experiences play or otherwise that you want to have in it, whether that's full coverage gimp/drone or just slutty latex underwear to start.

In terms of expenses to upkeep, lube definitely is the big one imo, you don't need all the fancy rinses and washes and all that, they're nice, but you can get away with just blue dawn dish soap in the shower and then hang or lay it out to dry.

As someone with chronic pain that has to minimize the effort and energy that latex takes, if you wanna shoot me a DM I can fully infodump advice on you. In general, go cheap at first, try standard size, and then move to nicer and made to measure.

My parents were very verbally and psychologically abusive, and any attempts to bring it up or say anything other than either "maybe every parent did that to their kids" or "it wasn't THAT bad I guess" leads to a screaming match mixed with gaslighting. So I fully get where you're coming from.

I tried to explain my eating disorder to my mom: I struggle eating or feel compulsion to not waste anything cuz I was food insecure growing up (not financial, just didn't see it as high priority to feed us, most of our meals were from my grandparents) and she fully screamed at/tried to gaslight me.
