The US is not simply“acting". It's launching attacks on Iran. When nations with advanced militaries & nuclear capabilities escalate a conflict, civilians pay the price. Bombed neighborhoods, damaged schools, injured & killed children. That is not abstract geopolitics,it's human suffering.

Saying “Israel has a right to defend itself” and "Canada supports the USA acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon” glosses over what is actually happening. Language shapes how ppl understand events. Softening it with careful phrasing does not change the reality on the ground.

This isn’t a solution. It’s a bandaid slapped onto a deep structural wound. It avoids addressing the real problem, which is that our economic system is failing a growing number of people.

The reality is that politicians out of touch with what life actually costs. Carney is an economist. He understands inflation, purchasing power, the widening gap between wages & cost of living. It makes this kind of half measure even more disappointing. He knows better, and Canadians deserve better.

I’m apparently supposed to be grateful for a one time lump sum of $87 and a $47 increase every three months. At best, that might cover a single bag of groceries, if prices don’t go up again by next week. This is being presented as meaningful relief, but it feels more like an insult.

You’re absolutely right. It’s time for politicians to wake up and commit to supporting and enacting #UBI policies. These proposed half measures are just a mere band-aid and fail to address the root cause of the problem. As an economist, Carney knows better and should do better by Canadians.

IMO, someone should compile a clear video of the critical moments of this interaction, viewed from multiple angles: Pretti was filming from afar, he was approached by agents, he helped a woman who was pushed to the ground, he was attacked in the face with pepper spray, and then he was shot.

I just checked—it turns out that Art. II, Sec. 1 of the Constitution of the United States does *not* say "The executive Power shall be vested in a bunch of sociopaths who think they can do whatever the fuck they want and make shit up as they go along."

The news today is ugly & demoralizing. I’m scared for the good, decent people in the USA.
