Had a great day in Arbury with the fantastic Fionna Tod who is working hard to make sure residents are listened to on the Arbury Court redevelopment, and has already asked a question at Council about security for the local shops and protecting the park. She will be an excellent Councillor!

A glossy A3 leaflet arrives from Arbury Liberal Democrats, with lots of local content promoting Fionna Tod, who is clearly their candidate for the May elections. Arbury has been a safe seat for Labour for many years, but perhaps the Lib Dems are feeling optimistic this year.

This week, the govt wrote to Cambridge City Council, giving Labour the option to cancel May's local elections. I believe they should go ahead. Before 15th Jan, please write to the Labour Councillors here - democracy.cambridge.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.… & tell them democracy delayed is democracy denied.

Yesterday, Cambridge's Labour MP abstained on Farage's Bill to leave the EHCR. The @libdems.org.uk stood up for human rights and decency. Cambridge deserves better than Labour.

We need to show this issue is important enough for the government to take notice. Please join those who are calling on the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to urgently guarantee the funding to repair and maintain the Jesus Green lock and Baits Bite lock.

Without guaranteed govt funding, the locks could fail completely. As the Parliamentary Candidate for Cambridge, I am working with Cambridgeshire MP's Charlotte Cane, Pippa Heylings, Ian Sollom & all those concerned for the future of the Cam & our precious chalk streams to raise this in Parliament.

with both structures closed since June 2024 due to serious safety concerns after surveys revealed that both lock islands are in imminent danger of collapse. A cost of £1.5 million is required per lock for immediate stabilisation work and at least £5 million per lock for full reconstruction.
