a lot of the characters are very strongly inspired by smash characters (like zetter [fox/wolf] and clairen [marth]) but others are totally their own thing

Yeah, that was clairen for me. You can get by real well with her with mainly smash 4/ult fundies.

the devs consulted with a lot of pro smash players while making it. from the ground up it has the competitive scene in mind.

yeah, I picked up zetter specifically because he is a more "melee" type character and he would make me learn that kind of gameplay, and I't working real well I think

it's also just a very aggro game and there is a lot of room for being flashy and slylish compared to the more recent smash games imo

it's basically smash. it's designed to have the skill ceiling of melee while being accessible enough for a newcomer to just pick up and play it and get started.

like i always wanted to play the smash games with wavedashing, but they're so hard to get into. but I feel like I'm getting it w/ rivals

I'm waiting for absa, but I'm having a blast with clairen and zetter in the meantime.
