I see a lot of people saying ‘division is our weakness.’ And it’s true, in a vacuum. But as much as I would love unity, I refuse to be united with bigots, fascists, and theocrats, or anyone who supports them actively or passively. We can be unified when they stop being vile.

2/ For example, if you have a friend that you never call anything but Katherine, you might call them ‘Kate.’ Sounds normal to anyone but the two of you. Or mention you’re hungry for a food they know you hate. Anything that is, between you, unambiguously a signal that you are in danger.

1/ Operational tip: if there is someone you would call if you were in trouble, establish an innocuous-sounding-to-an-outsider code word that will alert the other person that you cannot speak freely and need help.
