Nonsense functional medicine stuff needs WAY more pushback from health professionals. We needed pushback several administrations ago, and now we are here.

In a rationale country, the fact that a surgeon general candidate made any money from selling supplements, let alone $325K in 2 years, should be disqualifying.

I applied to access NHS and HPFS data to only reproduce only a subset of results within one paper and was quoted $50k.

Sad to see these revised standards for 'integrative and functional nutrition' coming from RDs in the era of MAHA - a time to critically evaluate, not endorse, this psuedoscientific gish gallop of unvalidated diagnostic tests & handwavey rationale for therapy (mitochondria! toxins! epigenetics!)

Gave some quotes to the @nytimes.com in this piece covering saturated fat in some anticipation of potential rollbacks on these regulations from the Kennedy HHS/Rollins USDA Dietary Guidelines. It's a meaty topic but Dr Callahan covered it well for the general public!

Heh I was looking at this trial this morning too.

Nutrients even has a policy requiring that trials are registered prospectively but don't enforce it. We commented in a letter once noting when one that was against policy and they made us remove that language πŸ™„

Column | Continuous glucose monitors are not a silver bullet for public health Continuous glucose monitors can’t single-handedly make you eat better or lose weight.

No, glucose monitors aren't particularly helpful for people who don't have diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Pathologizing insulin spikes is yet another distraction from the reality of an untenable food environment.

Cinnamon For Diabetes And Vitamin D For COVID-19 The painfully slow process of scientific correction

My new piece is on the painfully slow process of scientific error-correction and how it harms real people all the time.

Also, why cinnamon probably isn't a useful treatment for diabetes.

A new expression of concern was published on this randomized clinical trial of cinnamon for diabetes.

The study itself has been cited, according to Google, 1,700 times.

I first complained about it in 2023, so let me tell you the story of one of the most problematic papers I've come across 1/n
