Icebergs everywhere, gracing the landscape, shaping their paths, driving changes in the ocean, and challenging marine scientists to uncover their impacts on the ocean and our planet. 💙

Look who’s stepped out of those brilliant polar biogeochemistry papers and ended up right here beside me! 😍 I’m absolutely delighted about this fantastic opportunity to have some fun while collaborating with and learning from Libby Jones over the coming months. 🤗

After crossing 101º of latitude, around 13,000 km and some countries, from the far south of Brazil to the far north of Norway, I’ve finally arrived in beautiful, and now brilliantly sunlit, Tromsø. So excited for what lies ahead over the coming months of the boreal summer! 🥰

If you want to know how concerned to be about climate change, talk to a climate scientist. Very.

If you want to know how concerned to be about the rise of fascism, talk to a historian. The ones I’ve spoken to are as concerned about our time as any other time in the last 100 years.

A line graph depicting the ocean sink for carbon dioxide (Sₒᑐₑₐₙ) from 1960 to 2020. It includes multiple data series represented by different colored lines, showing CO₂ flux in Gt. Also shown are the number of monthly observation gird cells available, showing a decline for about a decade.

Routine observations are not exciting. Yet, measurements of surface ocean partial pressure of CO₂ (pCO₂; think of this as concentration) are important for determining annual ocean CO₂ uptake. It's alarming that the number of observations has been decreasing. 🌊

Cover from The Economist from two years ago "Say goodbye to 1.5°C; why climate policy is off target". It has a graphic of the Earth with an apple on its head, and a arrow shot through the Earth.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.
