My debut novel THIS MONTH (what?!) was my 9th. 1-8 are on a shelf. 10th is [redacted]. 11th about to start editing.

I queried the first 7 without success. Landed an agent for my voice.

Everyone's story is different.

Never underestimate the power of someone believing in you. Or the power of your belief in someone else.

I can barely believe that we're less than a month away from the release date for my debut Middle Grade #fantasy MYTHSPEAKER!

It's taken over a decade of writing, querying, editing, submitting, & persisting to get here. I can't wait to see what comes next!

But maybe it isn't for some of the people looking to these "tools", which begs the question of what their ends are (for one) and (for two) how we can help them see that the integrity of art and artists really DOES matter. No matter what the end goals may be.

I wrote books for a LONG time before anyone actually thought they were worth publishing (please see any of my many posts about the 8+ years I was in the querying trenches across 7 manuscripts lol).

But even if I'd never gotten paid a cent, I'd still be writing more. Art IS the end for me.

And if the art is just a means to an end, then using these sorts of "tools" probably just feels like a more efficient method for them to try and reach those ends.

Maybe it was never really about the art to them at all. Which is...hard for me to understand? I have to make art. It's coded into me.

Picking this up again because I had another thought about it:

Artists who suddenly latch on to things that make "art" for them probably didn't originally get into art because they fundamentally love making art; the art was just a means to an end, whatever that end may be.
