For #FossilFriday, we have a fossil from our editor Masaya Iijima.
This is specimen XM 12-1558, from Xinhui museum in Guangdog, China. It belongs to Hanyusuchus, a large (>6 m) crocodylian that became extinct only a few hundred years ago in south China, likely due to habitat loss and hunting π

Did you know we are one of two journals produced by the Natural History Museum London. We document the diversity of all living things through systematic, phylogenetic and taxonomic studies. We also provide a forum for museum sciences and collections-based works. So, why publish with us?

Early life may have survived Snowball Earth in meltwater ponds | Natural History Museum
Antarctic meltwater ponds are helping scientists understand how early organisms survived a frozen Earth.
We may be experiencing a heatwave in the UK right now, but did you know the Earth's surface was once almost entirely covered in ice? βοΈ
Scientists are discovering how life may have survived these Snowball Earth events, which lasted for millions of years.

Going back now.... I've seen them twice over the years... I think in both cases they were in well bedded tuffs on the west side of the main rock and spindle. There are individual ossicles throughout and some stems too
