LISTSERV - TMIP Archives - TMIP.ZEPHYRTRANSPORT.ORG Dear TMIP Colleagues, The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) has released a new Request for Statement of Qualifications (RFSQ) for consultant services to develop an Activity-Based Model (ABM). The RFSQ is available here: https://wfrc.utah.gov/contact/request-for-proposals/. The goal of this project is to enhance the Wasatch Front Travel Demand Model’s ability to represent increasingly complex travel behavior and choices to reflect new modes, peak spreading, evolving land use dynamics, and potential policy changes such as road usage fees and transit fare options. The RFSQ builds on a framework study completed with RSG, which outlined potential approaches and considerations for ABM development in the region (see https://wfrc.utah.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/WFRC-Activity-Based-Model-Implementation-Framework-20250221.pdf). WFRC and our transportation agency partners anticipate implementing the ABM using the ActivitySim platform, but proposers may suggest alternatives with appropriate justification. Submissions will be accepted through 12:00 PM MDT on November 6, 2025. We’re excited about this project and hope it will be of interest to many of you. Thank you in advance for your consideration. LISTSERV - TMIP Archives - TMIP.ZEPHYRTRANSPORT.ORG Posting on behalf of Rob Schiffer of Metro Analytics: The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty is undertaking research to develop a broad framework for applying different analytical approaches in support of transportation planning and decision-making. This effort seeks to develop adaptive processes in support of a more agile transportation programming and planning process. Understanding that there is no single tool to conduct planning, these processes should apply to a complete range of study types including, but not limited to freight, access management, ITS, LRTPs, congestion management, land use, and safety planning. The research team undertaking this project would like your input regarding the following questions:: (1) Where did you get your assumptions? (2) How do you come to a consensus on assumptions? (3) Where do you get your data and how do you verify its accuracy? (4) Why are you not incorporating other data sources? (5) Are there additional data types or sources that would be helpful, yet are still out of reach? (6) What are some important data sources you use that need improvement and how? If you can participate in this process by engaging in either an interview or listening session with the research team, it will greatly enhance FHWA's ability to identify analytical needs and build institutional capacity to aid decision making in your organization. You may be contacted directly by the research team regarding this effort. If you wish to participate or desire any further information, please contact the principal investigator Rob Schiffer ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and copy Stephanie Marks ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) or feel free to reach out directly to the FHWA Project Manager ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>). General_Discussion: Results from TRB Annual Meeting Participation Poll Hi all - Thank you all for your responses to my TRB Annual Meeting Participation Poll! The poll received 137 responses! Bill Hereth (thank you, Bill!) put together a quick Shiny app which lets you easily filter results, so you can view them here: https://wfrc.shinyapps.io/survey/ RE: the freeform text, here's a summary: What TRB Committee(s) were you or have you been involved in, if any? 99 responses * Travel forecasting and demand: Many respondents were involved in travel forecasting, travel demand, and related modeling and analysis committees. * Travel behavior and surveys: Several individuals participated in committees focused on travel behavior, travel choice, and travel survey methods. * Planning and economics: Involvement was noted in planning, land use and economic development, and planning applications committees. * Specific TRB committees: A significant number of responses mentioned specific committee codes like AEP50, AEP15, AP025, and AME10. * Other areas: Responses also indicated involvement in areas such as freight planning/modeling, traffic flow, transit systems, and environmental compliance. Any other comments? 55 reponses * Concerns about TRB changes: Many respondents expressed disappointment and anger regarding the recent restructuring, lack of transparency, discontinuation of key initiatives (including climate and equity-related work), and the handling of committee memberships. Some question the value and priorities of the organization. * Reduced likelihood of attendance/participation: Several individuals indicated they are less interested in attending, not planning to go, or will only attend committee meetings without registering. Reasons include cost, visa complications, personal safety concerns in DC, and the lack of incentive due to changes in committee focus (e.g., travel demand, GHG). * Alternative engagement/conferences: Some respondents are considering or planning to attend other conferences (e.g., Zephyr MOMO) or alternative events like Transportation Camp DC or a counter-event for equity-oriented work. * Conflicted participation: Some respondents, particularly grad students, feel conflicted due to the importance of networking and national service for their profession, despite their concerns about TRB's changes. * Support for TRB despite failings: A few respondents still see value in TRB due to its unique scale, international presence, and mix of researchers and practitioners, hoping to see it succeed and contribute to steering its agenda. Thank you again for all your responses! -Lisa
