This clarifies for us the importance of purifying the soul and its cleanliness as the ultimate purpose of life and the key to salvation.

The purpose of all these oaths is to prepare the listener for the ethical truth that follows (concerning the soul):

"He has succeeded who purifies it, and he has failed who instills it [with corruption]."(Quran 91:9–10)

• He implanted within humanity an inner consciousness or instinct that discerns between wickedness and righteousness.

This is the moral compass that enables accountability; it is the divine guidance inherent in the human fitrah.
