There is a local tradition that the Three Sisters was actually at Thompson's Point, which has now been erased and lies under the dual carriageway. It seems more likely that it's the Go Station (who ya gonna call? Go Station!) Grim though.

For one thing, the "Three Sisters" is the Carrickfergus Gallows, where Naoise O'Haughan (the famous highwayman who haunts Knockagh Hill to this day!) and William Orr (United Irishman) were hanged - but this map puts it in a different place to the usual accepted site (currently the Go petrol station)

Here's an interesting one - 1778 map of Belfast-Carrickfergus. There are some differences with the Ordnance Survey map of 1834, but there are some interesting features that aren't on the other maps.

Up at Stormont earlier, discussing #ShareTheShore - some day we'll win, and let the people access their beach!

I favour the potatoes hypothesis.

The access point here to the lovely shore of Belfast Lough is currently closed off for "health and safety" reasons that are spurious, and designed to favour certain residents over others. We want to #ShareTheShore and establish safe reliable access to and egress from our beach and the iconic Green Island itself, which gives our village its name.

If @meabc.bsky.social followed the logic of this biased report, they would close ALL beach access at every point on the shore. The implications are absurd and draconian. I would like Donnelly Safety Services to immediately withdraw this report and the Council to re-engage.

The vehemence with which it concludes that the Council should not allow residents to access the beach is really illuminating. It very strongly indicates that this report is not expert, and not independent. It should be set aside, and a proper study undertaken (if needed - it's actually not).
