This is a failure of imagination in these voters, I think. Things can get much worse than they are. Things can always get worse, if you take the long view, that's what usually happens.

This is probably also why the employment rights bill isn't really cutting through - the average, self-identified progressive voter in 2026 just isn't very interested in extending union rights to care workers.
