Anyway, sorry for the long ramble. Just close up by saying again that I appreciate you documenting the whole process for other people. I hope you find a solution for your troubles and can just create content again, instead of suffering through all this bureaucratic nonsense.

I'm currently setting up a storefront with a cryptocurrency checkout for my own content, but I'm fully aware this is not an ideal way to pay for most customers. It's mostly a backup, as there are still a couple of storefronts available for game developers. More than for written content, it seems.

The ridiculous annual credit card fees you mention here: bsky.app/profile/dark... are standard for high-risk processors, I believe. And this in addition to the rolling reserve requirements and the overall higher rates adult creators have to pony up in order to even sell something.

Guns are not in any way used to incite sexual arousal, nor are characters forced to perform sexual acts at any point in the game. But CCBill has a blanket-ban on guns (and other topics like watersports), regardless of context. Those rules are a requirement by Visa and Mastercard, according to them.

I ultimately got through the website review at CCBill and they were very thorough. I'm currently developing an erotic space opera visual novel, so basically an action story with sex interspersed. In order to pass review I had to remove any mention and all imagery of guns from my content.

Thank you for that extensive write-up. I went through a similar process with CCBill last year. Like Paykings and other processors they require a large amount of personal documentation (SSN, various business documents). But the lengths Paykings went to are just bizarre. I mean, photos of your home?!

No, they didn't give me much to go on. I'm really at a loss at what caused this. Could be a character or maybe certain wording, I'm not sure. Spooked enough to do a rethink on how I'm going to develop my projects in the future. I've been working on TFTUV since 2019...

Talking to indie devs, these things shock them most about adult games:

* Adult games are *manually* reviewed by someone at Valve, and this can take weeks

* Valve has no clear guidelines on acceptable adult content

* Rejections never come with a solid explanation

* There is no appeals process

I'm referring to the FAQ here, by the way: itch.io/docs/creator... I'm not sure if the removal was a mistake on their part, or a targeted action, but at the moment I'm a little confused how and if I can offer my content on itchio.

Either the support rep ignored the fact that I'm offering my content for free, or the payment processor's ToS apply to all content regardless if the content is free or paid. I sent a follow-up message challenging this and to try and confirm if my assumption is correct.

I sent an appeal as I firmly believe I don't violate itchio's own ToS and the second ruleset isn't applicable, because the game hasn't been on sale since 2025. I got a message back from them yesterday confirming this, but quoting from the payment processor's ToS and linking back to their FAQ.

Thanks! I'm trying to appeal the removal, but itchio so far takes a long time to respond. I'll try to give some more context, if that's helpful. itchio sent me a generic takedown message on July 25 during the eventual de-indexing citing both their own ToS and the payment processor's.

Stopping all sales back in 2023 apparently wasn't enough. Late July itchio still removed one of my games citing their payment processor's terms, despite them only applying to monetized games. The game has been free for over two years and I don't get a dime from itchio. Support doesn't seem to care.
