nearly twenty years ago, i moved from birmingham, alabama to college station, texas. a year after that, i wrote a one-act about myself, lonely & lovelorn, talking to a figment of my imagination. the star of the play, in the role of my male self, was a boy i'd had a crush on. one year ago today, please be my star was released. my debut fiction graphic novel -- a love letter to those two years in college station, to my teen self, to my love sergio diaz, & to many other moments in my life. a beautiful synthesis of many, many moments in my youth in texas.

i'm deeply thankful for everyone who red & enjoyed or thought deeply about the comic. i'm especially thankful to everyone who shared their thoughts & feelings about the book -- with me or otherwise. it's selfish to admit, but at times i'm pretty solemn about how please be my star has been treated out in the world. people have sent me wonderfully kind messages, and people have also written very disparaging & dismissive reviews. it's all very confusing to take in. "which is it?" i wonder.

i'm well aware it's a weird book; a weird book is exactly what i intended to make. so, all i can hope is that i'll be able to make comics like this for the rest of my life. i'm incredibly grateful & happy i got to make please be my star. to those of you who have held it, for any length of time, in your heart -- i can't thank you enough. happy birthday, please be my star ♡vge

Noa regrets letting the Griffin slip through her fingers, despite her best efforts. Via Wikipedia: The fight continues, and Noa manages to backflip the Griffin. By now the Griffin is starting to malfunction. It is still putting up a fight though, smashing Noa's main camera. Ohta tries to help Noa by firing his Labor gun with the help of Yamazaki, and manages to shoot out its main camera. Both machines are heavily damaged, and the fight will probably not go on for much longer. Utsumi orders Bud to escape. The Griffin flies off but crashes in Tokyo Bay. Bud is saved; however, the Griffin sinks to the bottom of the ocean. Asuma, who has been giving instructions to Noa all this time, rushes over to Noa's battered Ingram to see her crying inside. Utsumi cuts a deal with Schaft to avoid having Three-S chase him, and escapes Japan with Bud. Though Kanuka's investigation is unresolved, it is over for now, and she bids the SV2 farewell again.

While Schaft mercenaries scheme to destroy their rogue target, Noa confronts the Griffon to make an arrest. Via Wikipedia: The Griffin lands on the far side away from where Division 2 are, and they have race to the other side. Meanwhile Three-S attempt to ambush the Griffin but several of their Labors are destroyed. Asuma, who has been discharged from hospital, watches the events on TV and tries to find a way to get to the scene. He has been ordered not to go. Sasaki decides he can come with him to deliver a backup battery by helicopter. Noa goes in to attack but Momoko Sakurayama's TV crew arrive and she cannot take a shot at the Griffin because they are in the way. Three-S decide to blow up the Griffin by getting one of its Labors to attach explosives to it. The Griffin attacks Noa, she responds by hitting it with her shotgun, which goes off and almost hits her. The battle between Noa and the Griffin continues. Kanuka eventually removes Momoko and her crew so that Noa can shoot the Griffin. She shoots and the Griffin dodges and the bullets hits the Three-S Labor carrying the explosives, causing an explosion that knocks both Noa and Griffin out.

Honestly every year the first episode of Yuri on Ice becomes more painful. He hadn't seen his little dog in so long because he was training so hard!! To deal with that pain all alone in a foreign country while on the world stage!!! It's heart crushing!!!

(There IS a shot where a Ground Gundam is carrying one, and since the Robot Damashii RGM-79[G] figure comes with one I must've been convinced it actually appeared in the anime)

I have a tendency to put on a random episode of a Gundam OVA when I'm sick in bed and then just keep watching the series through, but I also wanted to confirm that there isn't actually a scene where a Ground GM is carrying a Gundam Hammer 😔
