In my utopian vision of the future, instead of offloading all the pointless, annoying work tasks (like reports that none one will read and needlessly opaque forms) to robots, we restructure work and society so that the pointless tasks don't happen at all.

The AI Con puts forward the argument that AI doomerism/boomerism are just two sides of the same coin. Making people afraid of the apocalypse is just another way to build hype around how "powerful" the garbage association machine is.

They really mean it when they say you don't need to be a SFWA member! I've had the pleasure of being a mentee 1x and a mentor 2x and even if you feel like you are still forging your own path in writing & publishing I promise you have a wealth of knowledge to share.

If you don’t normally read genre poetry, but you do nominate for the Hugos, now would be a great time to acquaint yourself with some of the fantastic and varied poetry that was published last year!

It's such an honor to be part of a thriving community of poets. I can't wait to see what the anthology looks like!

The notion of this being possible is like a square circle. It is a paradox, an impossibility, a contradiction in terms.

The Art Gallery of Hamilton is quite nice!! Favourite brunch places include: Steve's (greasy spoon), Verlan (crepes), and Rapscallion (fusion upscale). In the summer waterfalls are excellent but a bit too cold for that atm.

a foundational component of conservatism is "money is more important than people," but at its root it's "money is more important than everything."

so power centres actually spending money on things that aren't rewarding friends or indulging base desires? that sounds like communism, can't have that!

Awards Eligibility 2025 I can’t believe it’s already basically over and writing β€œ2025” as the year when I date things still feels foreign. It’s always strange to me how this annual accounting…

It's awards eligibilty season! Here's a highlight of some of my favourite works I had published this year, with a bonus photo of Kerby failing to be a unicorn for Halloween as a sacrifice to the algorithm gods.
