In the audience tonight is Charlotte Bennett, one of the 13 women that Andrew Cuomo is credibly alleged to have sexually harassed while they worked in his government.

She can't speak for herself because Cuomo's lawyers have hounded her.

So I confronted him.

Weird how the NYPL is able to promote and use the proper art assets for Brownstone, while Harper Collins uses the wrong assets and I have to argue with them about using the correct ones.

In other news, I am extremely happy to be working with Abrams Fanfare on Pok-Ta-Pok!

I've met like, three people from Abrams and they've all been just the sweetest human beings and we're having a lot of fun bringing Cookie, Salty and the rest of The Green Shoots to life!

I do not do this so that authors will avoid working with Harper Collins, but so they can make an educated choice BEFORE getting in bed with Harper Collins.

But I have to carry the weight of having a Printz Award attached to my name and to Brownstone, a Harper Collins title. I feel like it’s a my responsibility to speak out about the malignant behavior I’ve personally encountered at Harper Collins both before and after the Printz Award.

I will not name the names of those who have confided in me about feeling aggrieved by Harper Collins as that is not my place.

The reason I’m posting about this is not just because of me — but because Harper Collins (Harper Alley specifically) has a history of mistreating and gaslighting many other authors of color.

And now Harper Collins is, in my opinion, actively diminishing the Brownstone accomplishments due to the fact that I agreed with them that we shouldn’t work together in the future.

BTW, if Harper Collins cancels the publication of CASTLES AND CHOLOS, I can assure you, that it is retaliatory and due to me speaking out.

The publication of CASTLES AND CHOLOS will be my final project with Harper Collins.
