Fuck off with this horrible take, Brett. Fuck the “soul” of the GI Joe franchise.
Max Landis, like his father, is an unrepentant piece of shit and should not be allowed back. But let’s make it about the “soul” of precious toy line turned media franchise from tour childhood.
Fuck all the way off!

Realizing that I’ve been dragging my feet when outlining the last half of Pok-Ta-Pok vol 3 because I’m not ready to part ways with these four absolute menaces yet.

Hyeondo and I got on the same page and I emailed the editor and declined their offer of publication.
I hadn’t been published yet and I still walked away from an obvious bullshit deal.
That's the person I've been from day one.

I had a conversation with Hyeondo about it. The conversation was NOT weighing the pros/cons of what First Comics requested. But instead it was me asserting to Hyeondo that I will not allow some editor to tell him how to draw our book and that I wanted to pass on the offer.

They liked the book! Everything was going great until they suggested to me) that Hyeondo (Veda artist) should draw "differently". They gave me some examples to pass on to Hyeondo.

My first brush with a potential publisher was First Comics. They were making a comeback in the early 2010's, I pitched them what would become VEDA: Assembly Required.

There's this perception that because I have a Printz Award that the award gave me the assurance I needed to walk away from Harper Collins. Not true in the slightest. I've been walking away from bullshit publishing terms long before I was published.

If you are signing a contract with any publisher, talk to your rep about negotiating limitations on the option clause.
This does NOT create ill-will between you and publisher or the acquiring editor.
Wide open option clauses ONLY benefit the publisher, not you.

Cover art for “Brownstone” by Samuel Teer & Mar Julia. A massively oversized figure of a young girl with wavy dark hair reclines against a Brooklyn brownstone, as if it were a desk. The colour scheme is muted earth tones.
I read “Brownstone” by Samuel Teer & Mar Julia. In this YA coming of age graphic novel, a young teenager spends the summer with the Guatemalan father she never knew, renovating a Brooklyn brownstone and connecting with her heritage.
I loved it!

There are two wolves inside of me, one wolf wants to help you make comics.
The other is the laziest wolf that has ever lived.

Sometimes I’ll think, “I should start a patreon and post scripts so people can see how I work and they might find that helpful.”
That thought is often followed by this thought, “That sounds like a LOT of extra work.”

A4: Brownstone by Samuel Teer is one of my favorite graphic novels to share with my middle schoolers! Although it is super deep, it is also so sweet and lighthearted and a great lesson in understanding. (Featured is my signed copy that @katemessner.com brought me back from ALA25!) #TLSkyChat

My updated '26 blurb policy.
If we know each other or have a mutual acquaintance? I MIGHT blurb your book.
If I do not know you personally, chances are extremely low (but not zero) that I will blurb your book.
If your book is published by Harper Collins, there's not a snowball's chance in hell.

I am sporadically drawing a comic that explores wobbly gender feelings but in the style of a sassy 90s highschool movie!
people requested it go somewhere other than Instagram, so FYI you can now also read it at tapas.io/series/I-bec... in a nicer format 💜

A latina woman named Lime is wearing a tank top and underpants as she stares at a several days old coffee pot, she then googles how long can coffee sit before it goes bad, deciding that she’s willing to risk it all she pours days old coffee from a carafe directly into her mouth, satisfied she wipes the coffee from her lips.
A huge bald latino man enters his kitchen and prepares himself coffee from a French press.
A nervous Busser addresses members of The Private Menu, five violent criminal restauranteurs.
Sometimes I’ll forget a project in production exists and then I’ll get an email from a collaborator with pages!
In this case, I received these pages (plus many more) from artist Renan
Nuche.

Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee Baker is haunting, paranoid and utterly potent. I tore through it in a couple of days and immediately reread it a second time. It's easily tied with Salem's Lot as one of my favorite horror novels.
