But at the first opportunity to follow through on this promise, Tisch has let NYers down.

The CCRB and the Deputy Commissioner for Trials agree that NYPD Officer Rivera committed fireable misconduct when he shot and killed Allan Feliz. Now, NYPD Commissioner Tisch wants to override the decision to fire Rivera.
β
This is not justice. We call on Tisch to hold abusive officers to account.
We call on Commissioner Tisch to uphold the recommendation to fire Officer Rivera.
Anything less is unacceptable.
This is only the 2nd time that the Deputy Commissioner of Trials has agreed with a recommendation to fire an officer after a CCRB-prosecuted trial - the other was Daniel Pantaleo, who killed Eric Garner.
Tisch's planned rejection + override is a betrayal of NYers, especially Allan Feliz's family.

Arresting a public official for asking questions is dangerous intimidation and sends an unmistakably authoritarian message β that ICE doesnβt care about the rule of law, and that anyone exercising their right to challenge ICE and speak up for immigrants will be punished.

In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement attributable to Assistant Policy Director Michael Sisitzky: βThe NYPDβs so-called Community Response Team, like other revamped anti-crime units, may have a new name and a new uniform, but they continue to engage in a pattern of abusing New Yorkers, especially people of color. By doing so, they are perpetuating a harmful legacy of unlawful policing that has killed New Yorkers. βMayor Adams has reportedly given this unit carte blanche to carry out his harmful policing agenda, from targeting pro-Palestine protestors to unlawfully stopping Black and Brown New Yorkers. βAs Trump is pushing for more police impunity across the country, it is alarming that our cityβs leadership is ignoring the lessons we should have learned from decades of police abuse. Itβs time to dismantle this unit, stop wasting resources on ineffective and harmful policing tactics and instead invest in our communities.β

This weekend, DHS targeted and seized Mahmoud Khalil as punishment for his political speech, and indicated that they are revoking his green card. They have since handed him over to ICE where he is being detained β his location unknown β and held for deportation without due process. This is what fascist governments do, and it will not stop here. This extreme escalation is the test case; the Trump/Musk administration is trying to see how far they can go without public outrage and legal checks on their power. Now is the moment to speak out and oppose this as fiercely and loudly as possible.

For those who don't know this history, Cuomo personally empowered a breakaway Democratic caucus in the State Senate that called themselves IDC and voted for a Republican to lead the Senate even when Democrats held more seats. This blocked Democratic policy priorities for YEARS.

Read the letter here:
A graphic of a flyer. "MISSING" is in bold red text at the top, and at the very bottom of the flyer in the same font reads "LEADERSHIP NEEDED". Underneath "Missing" is the seal of New York State. Below that reads "Have you seen your state representatives" and then a black box encloses the text: "Governor: 1, Senate: 63, Assembly: 150". In small type under the box reads "Has not been seen this year. May be suffering from Trump-induced indecision and inaction. If you have any information, please contact your representative."
URGENT: Have you seen bold leadership from Albany in response to the Trump administrationβs attacks on immigrants, trans people, free speech, and more?
Neither have we. Please call your representatives to inquire about #WhereIsAlbany?
